Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Dounby as Cist (neolithic) - (bronze Age), Inhumation (neolithic) - (bronze Age), Mace (stone)(neolithic) - (bronze Age). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Neolithic cist and inhumation burial, possibly dating to the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age. The presence of a stone mace suggests ritual or high-status burial practices in a prehistoric coastal settlement.
