This bronze commemorative plaque records: Davygate. A thoroughfare for over 800 years and named after David, the King's Lardiner in the reign of King Stephen (1135) whose great grandfather had come over with William the Conqueror. He had control over the nearby Forest of Galtres and supplied the Royal Larder therefrom. Recorded plaque organisation: York Civic Trust.
