What is recorded here

This blue commemorative plaque records: Sheriff Shortreed. 1762-1829 Born in Jedburgh, Robert Shortreed lived in this house and was a close friend of Walter Scott. Together they ranged over the wilds of Liddesdale collecting ballads, stories and legends of the oral tradition of the Borders, which otherwise would have been lost. These were published as the renowned "Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border" in 1802. Recorded plaque organisation: Royal Burgh of Jedburgh.
