This blue commemorative plaque records: Closes. Jedburgh was originally built in a traditional cross-shape of four main streets. Off these streets were 'closes', passageways through the buildings to lanes and courtyards. Today you can see something of the layout of the medieval burgh and of the traditional style and design of the houses, including circular towers, forestairs and corbelled gables. Recorded plaque organisation: Royal Burgh of Jedburgh.
