This blue commemorative plaque records: Gloucester Masonic Hall The timber roof of this building is believed to have come from a medieval property originally located on Westgate Street near to the Cross, owned by St Peter's Abbey. The timbers date from around 1495. By 1878, it was known as the Mercer's Hall. It later became a bonded wines and spirits warehouse, then function rooms with one of Gloucester's finest dance floors. During World War II it was used as a canteen for US forces, run by Gloucester Rotary Club. Bought by the Freemasons in 1955, it is now home to several Masonic Lodges.
