This red commemorative plaque records: The Red Lion Hotel. For the whole of the 19th Century, the old Red Lion pub on this site was run by two families- the Clarks and the Wings. In 1905, the pub was re-built as a hotel, by the Hertfordshire Public House Trust. In 1915, this became part of the Home Counties Trust- the genesis of the National Hotel chain of Trust House Forte.
