What is recorded here

This commemorative plaque records: Borough of Clitheroe 1147-1974. Clitheroe was granted a charter by Henry de Lacy in (circa) 1147 and its existence as a borough lasted from that date until 1974 when under the Local Government Act of 1972 Clitherie lost its borough status and was merged with other neighbouring local authorities to become part of the Ribble Valley Borough Council but continued in its own right as a town council
