This green commemorative plaque records: Site of Wimborne Railway Station. Opened 1847 by the Southampton & Dorchester Railway. Wimborne solicitor Charles Castleman was the line's chief promotor. In the late 19th century passenger trains left here for London, Poole, Bournemouth, Salisbury, Weymouth, Swanage and Bath. Closed to passengers 1964 and to goods 1977. Recorded plaque organisation: Wimborne Minster Town Council.
