This blue commemorative plaque records: William Wailes (1808 - 1881) Prominent stained glass manufacturer lived here from 1862 until his death. He designed and built Saltwell Towers before selling it to Gateshead Corporation in 1875. Recorded plaque organisation: Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council.
