This blue commemorative plaque records: The Crown. This public house was recorded in the 1891 census as being run by Walter Mallard who also worked as an engine driver. During the early 20th century suppers for upwards of 60 people were being catered for and the inaugural meeting of the local branch of the local branch of the Gasworkers and General Labourers Union was held here in 1914.
