This blue commemorative plaque records: The Vine. From the early part of the 19th century this was a private school where pupils were charged 1d a week. Lacemaking was part of the curriculum. By 1881 it had become a public house. At the beginning of the 20th century Walter Jackson the landlord sold fish and chips in the yard and also ran the first local bus service. In the 1940s the landlady's father started up a small wood yard in the grounds which later grew to become G Mabbutt and Sons. Recorded plaque organisation: Brixworth Heritage Trail.
