This blue commemorative plaque records: Exeter Civic Society Stephen Simpson 1869-1964 Engineer and Inventor Chairman of Willey and Co. of Exeter Benefactor for the reconstruction of Exeter Cathedral during and after World War 2 lived in Tregear 1899-1912. (Mr Simpson invented the coin in the slot gas meter. Latterly he lived at Spitchwick Manor
