This blue commemorative plaque records: The Brunner Library. This building was donated to the town by Sir John Brunner Bt. MP in 1909. Designed by the architect A.E. Powles it adjoined the original salt museum and was built with a timber frame to resist subsidence and to allow lifting, the earlier 1885 library having subsided. Listed Grade II.
