This blue commemorative plaque records: 'The White Lion' Public House As a coaching inn, 'The White Lion' provided accommodation and fresh horse teams for coaches using the Great North Road. Vestry meetings were held here and the inn probably housed French prisoners of the Napoleonic war on their way to northern gaols.
