This black commemorative plaque records: Mercat Cross. the original market cross stood at the High Street junction with West Port, its likely position marked with a black cross. It was removed in the 18th century. Part of the present cross was discovered in the garden of a local bank. It was rebuilt with other stones and erected here in 1912. Recorded plaque organisation: Rotary Club of Dunbar.
