This blue commemorative plaque records: HAY CASTLE The building of the Norman part took place between 1200 and 1211 during the tenure of the Lordship of Hay by William de Breos. Prince Llewelyn burned the castle in 1231. It was rebuilt by Henry III in 1233. The Jacobean Manor House on the western side was built between 1600 and 1650 by Howell Gwynne. Two severe fires damaged the Manor House in 1939 and 1977 Recorded plaque organisation: Hay Warren Conservation Committee.
