This black commemorative plaque records: The Red Lion: Former coaching inn, established at least 200 years ago in the era of droving and the Doune Fairs. Buildings down this lane, originally stabling for horses, were in time replaced by a garage. In the early 20th century this was the location of Doune's first petrol pump.
