This blue commemorative plaque records: THE ANCIENT PARISH CHURCH OF ST.PETER. A place of Christian worship for over a thousand years. Archbishop Wulfhere of York fled here for sanctuary in AD 867 to escape the Viking invasion. Continues to be a living church serving the whole community.
