This black commemorative plaque records: Friends Meeting House - Oakham. Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) have been meeting together for worship in Rutland since 1671. Robert Hawley gave the land for the construction of this Meeting House in 1719. William Tompson left property at Somerby to the society and funds from this legacy helped to pay the £166 building costs.
