This black commemorative plaque records: Vaults Two large vaults of brick construction, linked at the back, were built into the retaining wall on the north-western boundary of the canal basin in the middle of the 19th century. They were built for coal storage for the nearby gas works, when after 10 years the Coventry Canal Company won back the business from the railways.
