This blue commemorative plaque records: William Sagar 1751-1809 Born and lived in Southfield. Converted to Methodism whilst travelling as a successful cloth merchant. Committed to build the first chapel in Colne, opened in 1777 by his friend, John Wesley, who preached at Southfield several times. Fulfilled a promise to Wesley and built this chapel within the farm buildings in 1797. Buried in St Bartholomew's, Colne. Memorial in the church. Recorded plaque organisation: Burnley and Pendle Methodist Circuit.
