This black commemorative plaque records: "As a memorial of goodwill to his fellow creatures as an encouragement to the trade of this Harbour, as means of preserving many valuable lives and much property, this S W Pier was erected at the expense of Alban Thomas Jones Gwynne Lord of the Manor of Aberaeron. If was begun in 1807 and finished in 1809. Lewis Davies, William Green, Edward Ellis and William Lewis masons, under the direction of Mr John Wood mariner" (Then in Welsh and English) This stone, laid in the year 2007, renews the gratitude of the people of Aberaeron for the labours of he founders of our town.
