What is recorded here

This brown commemorative plaque records: This Plaque is a Tribute to William Schofield 1903 - 1985 The structural repairs undertaken to the timbers and brickwork in 1997 by W. A. Schofield are in honour of "William Schofield". A Nantwich business man who in 1945 had the love and foresight to preserve the then derelict Widows Almshouses saving them from further deterioration. The restoration work took place over the next six years, creating the famous "Cheshire Cat", a licensed restaurant and later to become a fully licensed club. Sadly many similar buildings had fallen in Nantwich and are now lost for ever. This plaque is a tribute for all the hard work and effort he gave to preserve this fine example of Elizabethan Architecture for future generations to enjoy. Recorded plaque organisation: W.A. Schofield.
