This blue commemorative plaque records: Sentry Boxes Carved stone outlines of these can be seen at different points along the dockyard wall. They were manned by members of a volunteer militia drawn from the local townspeople. Look out also for the East Gate opposite the Red Lion. This was a short lived entrance to the dockyard now long bricked up. The Dockyard Rush At midday hundreds of dockyard workers would emerge (mostly from the South Gate) and flood up Blue Town High Street on cycles and on foot. Anyone in the way had to dodge the stampede and young cyclists could join in for fun ! Recorded plaque organisation: Blue Town's Heritage Trail.
