This brushed metal commemorative plaque records: The Reserve Army of William Duke of Normandy landed near here in late October 1066 after the battle near Hastings. This army moved north through the Meon Valley to Winchester then to Wallingford joining Duke William's main force which entered London in December. Duke William was there crowned King of England on Christmas Day 1066 Recorded plaque organisation: Rotary International.
