This green commemorative plaque records: Wheathampstead House Built in 1840 and home to Field Marshal the 10th Earl of Cavan (1865-1946). Famous visitors include Dame Nellie Melba, the Australian opera singer. This impressive Grade II listed wall and gateway were added to screen the house from Wheathampstead Station opposite, shortly after the railway arrived.
