What is recorded here

This grey commemorative plaque records: Knowlands St Martin's Lane. A slaughterhouse owned by Marsh the butcher, whose whop was at 50, High Street, was here until it closed during World War II. The name Knowlands comes from the farm between Barcombe and Spithurst, which is where the animals were reared. Recorded plaque organisation: Friends of Lewes Society.

A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
