This blue commemorative plaque records: During World War 2 Southend Pier and the nearby Royal Terrace were commissioned as a naval shore base called HMS Leigh. This plaque is in commemoration of all the men and women, both military and civilian, who served aboard her in defence of our nation from 1939 to 1945. Recorded plaque organisation: HMS Leigh.
