This blue commemorative plaque records: Home of the Spennymoor Settlement (The Pitman's Academy) since 1939. Under the inspiration of Warden Bill Farrell, this became the creative birthplace of eminent artists, writers and journalists, including: Norman Cornish MBE, Tom McGuinness, Sid Chaplin OBE and Arnold Hadwin OBE Recorded plaque organisation: Durham County Council.
