This blue commemorative plaque records: Edgar Purnell Hooley 1860-1942 highway engineer, inventor and journey maker. Nottinghamshire County Surveyor who pioneered the use of asphalt with a patented mixture, to turn Radcliffe Road into the world's first Tarmac road
