This green commemorative plaque records: The Bell Tower. This unusual 16th Century structure was necessary because the Church tower was not strong enough to hold the bells. John de Narde, a French prisoner from the Napoleonic War, escaped from the building. He was later shot and lies buried in the churchyard.
