This blue commemorative plaque records: There has been an inn on this site since the 1600's and it was first called The Angel in 1756. The town's major coaching inn, it was a centre for many activities - a meeting place for the Court Leet, the Church Wardens and even the stables for the Fire Brigade horses in the 1800's.
