This green commemorative plaque records: St Augustine's Abbey Garden This garden was presented to the city of Canterbury in 1977 by the trustees St Augustine's Abbey Precincts Recovery Fund. On the initiative of the late Canon J W S Tomlin (Warden of St Augustine's College) and others, the fund was raised by public subscription with the purpose of making more beautiful the surrounding to the Abbey and providing a garden for the enjoyment of citizens and visitors to the city.
