This blue commemorative plaque records: Thomas, Baron Ward Brought up in a cottage behind the Angel Inn which stood here, Thomas Ward, born in 1810, had a remarkable career. Starting work as a jockey, here and on the Continent, he joined the household of the Duke of Lucca and became in a series of extraordinary steps, Minister of Finance and then Prime Minister of Parma.
