This blue commemorative plaque records: John Harrison 1579-1656 St. John's, one of England's most remarkable churches, was built by this celebrated benefactor in 1634. A cloth merchant and co-founder of Leeds Corporation, he further endowed the town with almshouses, a new grammar school and a market cross. Recorded plaque organisation: Leeds Civic Trust.
