This bronze commemorative plaque records: Sir Walter Scott granted honorary Burgess of Musselburgh 25th March 1799. Resided in the honest toun periodically from 1797 to 1808 while on duty as Quartermaster of the Edinburgh Light Horse there wrote many stanzas of "The Lay of the Last Minstrel" and of "Marmion".
