This red commemorative plaque records: Heaton Mining Disaster 1815. 100 metres below us, 75 men and boys were trapped when Heaton Main Colliery flooded on 3 May 1815. None survived. Recorded plaque organisation: Heaton History Group, Heritage Lottery Fund.
