This black commemorative plaque records: Henry ‘Harry’ Clasper 1812-1870. World champion rower and pioneering boat builder: the father of modern rowing. Competed in over 130 races, many on the Tyne from High Level Bridge to Scotswood Bridge. Haud away, Harry! Canny lad, Harry! Harry’s the king of the Tyems an’ the Tyne! Recorded plaque organisation: Newcastle City Council.
