This blue commemorative plaque records: A house previously on this spot was the birthplace of Francis Baily FRSA FRS (1774-1844). Four times elected President of the Royal Astronomical Society. Discoverer of "Baily's Beads", a phenomenon of solar eclipses. Compiler of several star catalogues for the RAS. He is buried and his memorial is in St Mary's Church, Thatcham Recorded plaque organisation: Newbury Society, Newbury Town Council.
