This black commemorative plaque records: Cairo Street Chapel. Established in 1703 by a group who had broken away from the Church of England the chapel was later associated with Warrington's Nonconformist Academy. The present building dates from 1745 although the interior was remodelled during the ministry of the Reverend Carpenter (1846-61).
