This blue commemorative plaque records: On the 24th April 1812, the looms of a steam-powered mill, built across from here in 1803-4, were smashed, and the mill set alight by Luddite rioters, 4 of whom were hanged, and 9 transported to Australia for 7 years Recorded plaque organisation: Westhoughton Local History Group.
