This blue commemorative plaque records: The Eastgate. This was the site of the Eastern gateway of the Roman Fortress, part of which was incorporated into the medieval gate. The present arch was built 1768-9 at the expense of Richard, Earl Grosvenor. The clock above commemorates the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897.
