This brushed metal commemorative plaque records: On this site stood Royal & SunAlliance's Longridge House which was destroyed in the 1996 Manchester bombing. Longridge House was the head office of British Engine Insurance Ltd., a Manchester based company founded in 1878, which incorporated the Manchester Steam Users Association (the first boiler inspection company) founded in 1854. British Engine Insurance is a subsidiary of Royal & SunAlliance Insurance Group plc.
