This black commemorative plaque records: Volk's Electric Railway, Brighton. The world's oldest electric railway opened on 4 August 1883. Constructed by pioneering electrical engineer Magnus Volk, the line still follows much of the original route. The continued operation of this railway is a tribute to his life and work Recorded plaque organisation: Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
