This brown commemorative plaque records: Hugh Miller (1802 - 1856) geologist and naturalist, writer and folklorist Hugh Miller edited The Witness newspaper at 297 High Street from 15 January 1840 until his death on 24th December 1856 "Life is itself a school, and nature always a fresh study" Recorded plaque organisation: Portobello History Society, Cromarty Arts Trust.
