This white commemorative plaque records: Wing Commmander Guy Gibson VC DSO & Bar DFC & Bar was leader of the famous 617 'Dam Buster' squadron which was formed in 1943 for the specific task of breaching the Moehne and Eder dams in Germany. This they achieved with the aid of the Barnes Wallace bouncing "bombs" and with tremendous courage on the night of 16th May 1943.
