This black commemorative plaque records: Fort Newhaven. Built to counter the threat of French invasion in the 1860s. The fort was restored in 1981 by The Fort Newhaven Ltd. in association with Lewes District Council and with the assistance of the East Sussex County Council and the Department of the Environment. Opened to the public for the first time in its history 7th April 1982 by General Sir Harry Tuzo GCB OBE MC Recorded plaque organisation: Fort Newhaven Ltd.
