This blue commemorative plaque records: Charles I and the Civil War On the 5th May 1646 at 7.00 a.m. Charles I arrived at 'The King's Head' from Stamford, disguised as a clergyman. Here he spent his last hours of freedom before being taken to Kelham to the Scottish Army Commander. He was later handed over to the English Parliamentary Army.
