This blue commemorative plaque records: Joseph Platt 1863-1930 As Hon Sec ran the Northern Union, later to become the Rugby League, from these offices from 1895 until 1920. He is considered by many to be the father figure of Rugby League. Platt was an official of Oldham FC from 1885 until his death in 1930 Recorded plaque organisation: Oldham Council.

Joseph Platt (1863-1930) served as the Honorary Secretary of the Northern Union, precursor to the Rugby League, from 1895 to 1920, playing a pivotal role in its formation and development; he is widely regarded as the father figure of Rugby League.
