Ogham stone (present location) in Unknown Townland

This is one of two ogham stones discovered in a Man-made underground passage (CO061-022001-) at Monataggart, Co. Cork (see CO061-022003-) where it formed part of the ‘upright stones’ (Quarry 1896, 382). It was purchased by the Royal Irish Academy and is now part of the collection of National Museum of Ireland. Measuring 0.9m high, 0.4m x 0.1m thick, according to Macalister (1945, 118-9, no. 119), it was broken in two but ‘the reading is quite clear and certain’. He gave this as DALAGNI MAQI DALI. (Power 1997, 169-70, no. 7979) This stone has been studied as part of the ‘Ogham in 3D’ project undertaken by the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
